The 2,4 DOHC theremostat is located way down under the engine you can say enclosed in a steel tube with the bolt flange surrounding it. I do not have drawings for you, sorry. The 2.2 will be on the head cylinder

Were is the thermosat located

For the 3.0 ohv engine follow the upper hose the the housing on the intake manifold. It will be behind that housing. On the 3.0 DOHC engine. Follow the lower hose to the water outlet housing. The thermostat will be behind that housing.

Finding the thermostat

Just follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine, where is connects to the engine remove the hose and the cover under it to expose the T-Stat. Drain about 1/2 gallon of coolant out before you start work. Bleed the air from the cooling system (refer to service manual for this year and engine type) after the T-Stat is replaced to prevent poss overheating.

How can you tell what type of transmission is in my 1998 chevy malibu

Whether your Malibu is:
(a) 4 cylinder 2.4L SFI DOHC Vin "T", or
(b) 6 cylinder 3.1L SFI OHV Vin "M"

SFI = fuel injected
DOHC = dual overhead camshaft
OHV = overhead valves
Vin = 17-digit unique car identifier - the 8th digit identifies the engine (not the transmission), and
as you can see, your engine will be identified by the 8th digit = "T" or "M"

your car has the Chevrolet 4T40E automatic transmission (aka "automatic transaxle")
Here are some specifications:

Where is the oil sending unit on a 1996 ford taurus 3.0 liter engine located? glenn

On 3.0L OHV engines, the oil pressure sensor is located on the left side of the engine block above the flywheel. On 3.0L DOHC engines the sensor is located on the left side of the engine block above the oil filter. On 3.4L DOHC engines the sensor is screwed into the oil filter adapter. The oil pressure sensor operates the oil pressure warning lamp.

Where is the thermostat located

thermostat is located at the end of the lower radiator hose, not the upper like most vehicles. Remove the two bolts (most likely 10mm, you'll need a deep socket 10mm) then the housing. The thermostat is in the housing. remove and replace with a new one.
