DVD Plays in Black and White

I no longer have the origianl cables that came with the dvd. i was using monstercables and S video to hook up to my big screen. all was fine till i moved 3 times. Now im trying to hook up the dvd but The movies play in black and white? Not sure if if im missing a cable or just plugged in the wrong place? Ive tried plugging in differnt areas without any luck. I do Loans, and Im not good with hooking up anything electronic. I just got my Direct TV Hooked up so can I connect to that?

Depending what cables you have, try plugging only the yellow cable into "video out", I previously had red, white, and yellow cables plugged into "comopents out" and only got black and white. Doing only the yellow into video out gave me color.

I had the exact same thing after moving. I found out that it still played some movies with color, and the ones that were b&w I could play if I used another output. With mine it was the analog that got screwed, but the RGB still worked well. It could be that your S video has gone b&w but RGB/analog will still show color. Check it out and post back. Good luck

I had a same problem. My manual was lost and I was lost with my problem. But then I discovered a switch on the back panel of the dvd player. I think I had accidentallly switched it to RGB/Composite-mode and I switched it back into Component/Composite-mode. And the colors came back ooohhh so brilliant. I have my dvd connected to tv via scart cable. So I think that your problem could lie there: on the back panel of your dvd player. Jukka

SOURCE: Playing movies in black and white

Use a scart lead to connect it to the TV, that should cure it.

SOURCE: DVD player only plays DVD in black and white - what's wrong?

Ok,
I'm not sure what you mean by digibox. Under what conditions are you able to see things in color? Is a digibox a seperate device you can get to work with the same connection as your player? If one device displays color on the same connection and another doesn't then that seems to rule out the television being the problem. Can you clarify a little more?

#dhb300b DVD player plays only black and white my TV is a JVC HD TV with HDMI cable from driver TV box hook up DVD to TV audivo to audivo video to video set TV to component program DVD to TV but plats

The yellow/red/white cables are COMPOSITE cables. COMPONENT cables are RED/BLUE/GREEN. You can buy those at any electronics store. Your best bet, though, is to stick with HDMI if you can.

My dvd player is hooked up to t.v. but only plays movies in black/white

How is the DVD player connected to the TV? If you are using component video, check that the cables are connected correctly.

If you switch the order on two of the cables, the black and white result is common. So double-check that the red, blue and green connections (RPbPy) have been connected to both devices in the same order. Next try a different set of component video cables, in case one of the wires is damaged.

If possible, try a different type of connection to rule out a damaged input/output. Connect the TV to a different DVD player or the DVD player to another TV, if possible, to rule out similar damage.

Please add a comment with the connection type for additional support. I hope this helps.

DVD plays only in black and white

Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and white. The connections go as follows:

HDTV:
Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one, then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding cords go to the correct component slots.

DVD:
Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots. The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr. Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.

DVD plays in black and white

Which type of cable are you using to connect the DVD to the TV?

Composite video - yellow RCA?
Component video - red / green / blue RCA?
S-video?

This problem could occur if you are using composite video and have it plugged into one of the component video inputs.

Alternatively it could be that you are trying to play a PAL (European DVD) source into the NTSC input.

Dvd showing in black and white

I'm assuming you're using the yellow ended video cable and two audio cables hooked up to your TV to display the signal. If so, I would just make sure they are connected in the correct output jacks on your dvd player and that they match up with the input jacks on your TV. If so, then I'd try another DVD player to see if that one plays OK.
