Burned Thermostaticaly Controled Switch

I require a new T.C. Switch for my 1 year old Presto Heat Dish. The copper filament connecting one of the contacts has melted away.

If available, I would like to find a supplier for the switch in Calgary Alberta.

Thanks!

the thermostat switch has a burnt contact

  • Anonymous Dec 25, 2008

The TC switch copper fuse burned today morning. I tried few remedies such as sticking copper strips. But, they do not hold the high current. Mine is couple of years old, so can't even it return it.

I guess I need it to junk it and buy something better.

no repairs, however you do have a full year warranty. Just return it to Costco and they will exchange it for you.

I bought a Presto Heat Dish at Costco (Calgary) and not even a year later the control switch's filament burned out. can you send a replacement switch or provide me with a local supplier so I can return the defective unit and repair it myself?

Thanks!

Koby

Left or right turn signal wont work.

One of the filaments in the dual filament bulb is burned out. If the bulbs are good then the flasher is defective. It is located under the dashboard (drivers side). It just plugs into a socket. Just pull it out and replace with a new one. Rarely the turn signal switch itself goes bad unless the car is very old ( 10 plus years old ).

RE: Presto Heat Dish buzzer going off

I almost threw my heater out! I cleaned this morning with Window Cleaner and it works just fine now. It was just dust. I cleaned the round metal area not the coils.

Hope this helps.

Emailed Presto about replacing the buzzer and here is the answer I got:

There is no such part. Buzzer sounds when heater:
- is tipped
- rests uneven on floor
- is too close to furniture or wall
- has too much dust on parabolic dish
The most common reason is that the parabolic dish is dusty.
To clean the heater:
1. Unplug the heater and clean it when it is cool
2. Spray a cloth with an all-purpose cleaner such as 409
3. Wrap the cloth around a long handle such as a wooden spoon
4. Wipe between the grate from the outer edge to the center
If you have further questions, please let me know. Or call us at 1-800-877-0441 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central Time.

My presto heat dish doesn't emit enough heat anymore, even though it's only 4 months old. What do I do?

Go to the Presto website and email them. They are really helpful.

How to clean dish? Safety grate covering face of dish does not appear to have a way to remove it so backed on dist can be removed and heat dish can be returned to near new condition. Thanks, Mike

This is the answer I got from Presto. I cleaned it with window cleaner, wooden spoon and paper towels. Dish works great now.

Bought Presto Poplite New Used Once Never Worked Again ?

Welcome to FixYa, If my solution meets your approval, I'd appreciate a good ranking. Regarding the popper, I read the owner's manual for this model and it is a very simple machine. I had thought that there might me some type of interlock or switch that might be at fault for the malfunction but they don't. It seems that the unit is just filled with popcorn, plugged in and within two or three minutes you should have popcorn.

  • If you haven't already, try plugging the unit into another outlet.
  • If the unit is in an area with a G.F.I. outlet (these are rectangular and have a reset switch that can pop and make the outlet dead) check the outlet and if needed reset it by pushing the red button back in.
The good news is that Presto is a very old company with a great reputation for customer service. Their warranty is 2 years, but if you explain the situation and the unit is more than two years old, they may repair it for nothing. You would be responsible for the shipping. In fact, their warranty says to return it and just indicate the date purchased. They don't even require a receipt. They can be contacted at:

Service Department weekdays 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Central Time) at 1-800-877-0441

Finally, just in case you don't have the user's manual any longer, it can be viewed and saved at the following link:

Thanks again for allowing me to assist!

Presto Heat Dish

The hardest part of cleaning the dish is that you can't get your hand inside the cage surrounding the dish. What I did was to use a wire cutter to snip enough pieces of the cage off so that I could get access to the dish. If you do it carefully, it looks as if it was intended and doesn't prevent the cage from working. If you think of the cage/dish as a clock, I cut all the strips between 9 and 11, and 1 and 3. Easy to clean the dish afterwards.

That might not solve the buzzing problem, though. It didn't solve it for me.
