No Suction I have a dc18 dyson and it had lost suction from the main hoover and the hose part. If you remove the dust collection part there is suction from the hole behind that part. I have cleaned all part to this hoover but the problem is still there. Any help would be apprieciated. Thanks

Thank you for 1st reply. I took the hose away from the bottom and found the a white hose inside the hole where the hose is attached turned round blocking flow. I have it turned so hole is showing and now the hose vacuum is working but the main hoover vacuum isn't working still. Any further help would be very much appreciated. Many thanks

Thank for your reply. There is no auto cord rewind button. The button beside the on/off is the brush on/off which works turning brush at bottom of hoover. Model is Dyson slim dc18 all floors. Many thanks

Thanks again for reply. I have checked bottom hose for blocks and there is no blocks. I have also checked all filters and cleaned all which require cleaning but still no difference. No suction from vacuum at bottom but roller works fine. Any further help would be very much appreciated. Many thanks

It can be that the washable canister filter is clogged you need to clean it with wet cloght to remove dust. Also the brush itself can be clogged
check it with wire or something flexible
Good Luck

  • Anonymous Dec 19, 2008

Did you try to just remove the filter and chech it for suction. If there is a suction the filter is complitely clogged (that is the common problem for bagless vaccum cleaners) if no you have a clogged hose some where close to the dust canister

    Good Luck

Most likeley the passageway from under the Roller to the hose has something blocking it or the seal when the hose is connected isnt tight enough.

Also remove any string or hair that has bound into the roller or spinning motor as this will reduce performance drastically over time.

There are also alot of small filters besides the main one, that prevent debrea from getting into the turbine and motor, check them all. The owners manuall will usuallu tell you where they are located.

It could be the problem of The Auto cord rewind button is sited directly next to the On/Suction dial that needs to be replaced as that is not communicating with the machine .may be the whole socket assembly or just the button internally.

Cannot reconect hose at base dyson dc8

Hi Joei, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC18's hose should clip back onto the machine without difficulty. It just pushes into place, and you should hear and feel a click as it locks securely. You might find the tips in our Support guide useful: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc18/dc18-allfloors/diagnosis-root-menu/dc18tilterwashvid/flo-dc18-gen-wand-suction/flo-dc18-gen-wand-suction-main/flo-dc18-gen-remove-the-wand-from-hose/redirect-to-flo-dc18-gen-check-the-hose/flo-dc18-gen-check-the-hose

If you'd like further guidance on reattaching it, please give the Dyson customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), or 1800 239 766 (AU).

On my DC18 there is no suction at the wand.I took it apart to make sure there was no clog. What switches the suction from the bottom to the wand? Thanks John

  • I actually answered a question just like this the other day. On the DC18 the switch is automatic. When the vacuum is upright the suction is automatically to the hose.
  • When you tilt the handle back the suction is automatically to the floor.
  • If you took things apart and cleaned them and have no suction through the hose when the vacuum in the upright position then this is a manufacturers defect.
  • The way I know this is for the other persons issue I called Dyson directly because I wanted to see why I could not see a switch and they told me there was none, it was automatic.
  • Here is the good news. Dyson offers a full 5 year warranty and the DC18 has only been out for 4 years. So every DC18 on the market is still under a full warranty.
  • What Dyson told me is this. Contact Dyson and they will see if their is a repair center near you and if so then you can drop it off there for a 100% free warranty repair.
  • If there is no repair shop in your area then they will ship it both ways and repair it 100% free on Dyson.

  • Here is there contact information.
  • Here is the link to choose the country should you be outside the USA. http://www.dyson.com/ If you choose that link the when the page loads got to the lower right of the screen to the fine print and click on "contact us" and the information will show up.

I have a dyson DC18 slim all floors i have no suction from the accesory hose with hose off there is a white plastic thing blocking the hole

I realize this questioned was posted >1 year ago, but in the event you still have the poor suction/wheezing or if anyone else has this issue, here's what worked for us.
Use a plumbers sink snake to unclog the "pipe". I thought it was the pipe on the right hand side (when you're looking at it) which needed to be unplugged. There was a little in that size, however we retrieved the nastiest "hairball" out of the left hand side (when you're looking at it) and after removing that, and re-testing, the suction was incredible. In addition, the "wheezing" noise was no longer there.
Good luck

Hi my dyson dc18 has great suction from wand but when you got to use the vac for floors little suction but wand still got suction even while vacuming floors is it suposed to stop suction from wand

My Dyson dc18 had the same symptoms. The wand worked well and the floor bar had no suction. After removing pieces & shoving my fingers into the machine (no blockage) I found the suction pipe rotates between two positions (floor and wand). It looks like a piece of plastic broke on the outside housing, so it no longer rotates positions when the wheels are raised or lowered. My son found we can move the suction by sliding a finger into the mechanism behind the wheel cover, and rotating the plastic piece clock-wise or counter clock-wise until it locks into position. It's a big pain but it works for now. I wish I could find a replacement piece online. Patty

Dyson dc14 has lost suction

Down on the lower right hand side of the vacuum, when you're behind it, there is a little 'J' shaped piece with a purple clip on it. Tilt the vacuum up and unclip this. Usually, people who have these amazing vacuums will accidently **** up things like lollipop sticks/pens/paperclips/etc. that don't bend... and will stay in this piece. This should solve your problem.
