There's several home remedies you can try: Try 50% "White Vinegar", 50% Hot Water or 2 Denture tablets in warm water over night or Baking soda in warm water. These remove the alkaline, minerals, and nitrates that build up on the surface. There is even a commercial product you can use to clean it. I can't recall the name but look in any supermarket, you should be able to locate it.

Okay. I took the base off the kettle (made a special screwdriver). Saw that one of the contacts was loose on its 'swage'. Used a pin punch to re-swage it. Bingo! it worked.

Don't think its a bulb - more like an LED (light emitting diode)
Had to replace
SOURCE: Breville kettle blew fuse (trip switch) now won't switch on
If the 'neon' light is on, the power is getting to the kettle, so if its not heating up then the element must have broken.
This kettle has a little white trip switch inside the 'socket' of the kettle (not the base unit). If its not heating, light is not on and the plug fuse is OK, then poke the white trip until it clicks.

You might look into purchasing a silicon sealant. Get the food grade kind. This should do it. http://www.etundra.com/White_Food_Grade_Silicone_Sealant-P19204.html?utm_source=google%2Bproduct&utm_medium=organic
There's also a high temp version thats rated up to 500 deg F if you need to fix something with a higher heat rating.
