Clogged vortex holes

I own a Dyson asthma and allergy machine. Works okay, but definitely not as well as when I first got it. I have cleaned my filter on a regular basis which helps slightly with suction. As I was cleaning my machine today from top to bottom in an effort to figure out the problem, I noticed there are six holes in the top of the cylcone chamber of which 4 were plugged with what seems to be balls of hair! I have tried everything from rinsing with water to unscrewing the machine in an effort to get this **** out. The screws are apparently for looks or just to throw you frustration level into high gear. Is there anyway to get into this chamber and clean my machine for good?

    I have the same problem.
Everything else is clear (i.e., hoses, etc.) but cyclone is plugged.
I basically I have no suction at beater bar due to this.
I personally think this machine is a waste of money and difficult to work on (and yes - I've had to work on this $500 piece of plastic in it's short life thus far).

I had these same issues. It came down to my husband beating the **** out of it several times. He'd take the canister apart, pound it on the ground, use a hair dryer to blow out as much as we could, a hanger down the top to pull out any hair we could grab. Then I'd use it -- it definitely loosened up some stuff. He'd pounded on it again and more stuff came loose. Don't know if it's fixed, but it's got it's suction back. Now I have have hose suction issues.

It felt good to beat on it a bit.....

Broke down and took it in for repair. Service folks aren't even supposed to take the vortex assembly apart. They told me it was a known defect and warranty issue. Of course mine is out of warranty but it only cost me $75 to get a whole new vortex and canister part.

Check out http://www.aaavacs.com/. He's very knowledgeable on Dyson's and may be able to help.

I had similar problem and have just posted a solution on another question. Check the hotlink under my user name or search under dyson hair filter (the problems with the hair inside the vortext eventually lead the filter to keep getting clogged.

DC18 Allergy - can the clear bottom filter be removed

Hi Angela, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC18 Allergy is equipped with a HEPA filter engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. As long as it hasn't been damaged in any way, we wouldn't expect it to need replacing - and for this reason, it isn't designed to be removed from the main body of the machine by the user.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further guidance or advice you're welcome to contact our experts directly. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US) or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Hi my dyson dc07 allergy is not picking up the dirt from the floor or carpet . I have cleaned it's filters emptied it's dust but nothing works

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The first thing to check is that the brush bar is rotating when the machine is switched on and lowered into the vacuuming position. If it isn't, make sure the brush control dial is in the centre position and moves forward to the on position when the head is released.

Its worth checking the whole machine for blockages as outlined in the user guide or on our website support section at www.dyson.com.

Should you need any further assistance, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards
Darran

Dyson DC 17 Asthma allergy Vacuum

I had a similar issue. I called Dyson. Hey why not, the number is right on the from of the machine. SO IS the beater bar on/off button, right next to the big red on/off switch. It does have a safety off when something jams the bar from rotating so the motor doesn't burn out. I also removed my sock and on restarting the thing, the beater bar would motor was not turning on. I thought the reset would be inside but no, it is right outside in plain view, which I didn't see either. It is a grey button opposite the big red on/off switch. Boy did I feel dumb after that phone call!

Installation of a Dyson filter

Hi Nancy.

Thre are 2 filters on the DC4.
The first is A one piece filter which colud just be circular pad or purple plastic hepa filter this filter fits directly on top of motor.
To fit this remove the wastebin & vortex head from machine now look down on top of machine you will see A circular cover with fins on it remove this & this type filter goes in there.

The second filter will be yellow plastic frame which has circular foam insert inside it the foam is normally blue & can be pulled out so you can wash it.
This filter fits directly on top of vortex unit, To fit this filter push button near handle on the top of wastebin & vortex the lid of vortex will open you wil see A ring of holes the filter goes in here shut the lid & thats it done.

My dyson smells bad

Hi.

Yes you can use lots of soapy water & pressure washer or hose to clean the vortex unit but remember it will take at least 36 hrs to dry out internally.

Washable filter is getting clogged with dog hair

I have a Dyson Animal Absolute and a rescue white american eskimo dog and two tabby cats.

We found white hair on top of the washable filter and called Dyson to fix it. There shouldn't be anything on that filter.

The Dyson rep said:

Check the black rubber seal that surrounds the "cyclone" holes as it may need to be pushed down because it isn't sealing properly.

To do this remove the cannister and dump out the stuff in there. Do it outside so the fluff doesn't circulate in the house.

Turn the entire filter part upside down so you can see inside.

Check the seal that is at the bottom of the entire filter part and look at the two half moon "nozzles" that **** up the dirt.. now make sure the black rubber band that surrounds those two nozzles is either up or down... do this then vacuum a bit.. check the washable filter to see if it is clean...make sure the rubber seal actually is sealing.. it should just set into place once you have it done properly.

Now if this doesn't fix it, call Dyson, the number is printed on the front of the machine.. and give them your serial number which is located behind the removable cannister. The machine has a 5 year warranty.
