In the bottom of the humidifier is a little disk that vibrates to turn water to vapor. This gets covered in mineral deposits and won't vibrate properly. They usually suggest something like vinegar to clean it. I found that this didn't work for me. What did work was cleaning it with my Waterpic on the highest setting. It chipped away the deposits and allowed it to work. HOWEVER, once you get it running again, buy the slant fin mineral absorption pads to keep it running. If you have mineral-rich water like me, you'll go through them quickly, but you also won't have white deposits on your walls anymore.
Here is a tip that I wrote about heating circulator pump problems. It will give you the information you need to learn about your circulator pump problems and solutions for it.
FILLING THE WATER TANKS
1. Before filling the water tanks, push the POWER switch to the “OFF” position and
unplug unit. Refer to cleaning instructions.
2. Remove water tanks from base, turn each tank upside down and remove tank cap
by turning counterclockwise. Fill tank with clean cold tap water.
Replace the tank cap by turning clockwise. Tighten firmly.
3. Carefully pick up tank, since it will be heavy when full, and slippery if wet.
4. Place water tanks on base. Make sure tanks are properly placed, otherwise, the
humidifier will not work correctly.
First check to see if the two water sensing probes have been cleaned. After cleaning, if the problem still persists, try the following.
There is a small thermostat switch that sits on the heating coil underneath. This thermostat is designed to prevent the coil from overheating when no water is present. What probably has happened is the switch is doing what is designed to do but has become defective and is opening and closing at a lower temperature. So what is happening is the red light reset indicator will come on because this switch opens, the coil starts to cool and the switch closes and the light goes off.Because it is defective, this is occurring when it shouldn’t, causing this maddening on/off cycle.
Fortunately, this sensor is easy to replace if you’re handy.Make sure you unplug the humidifier from power.Turn it over, remove six screws, and carefully lift the lid.Look toward the heating element and you will see a small button type device with two wires plugged into it and is attached with two screws off to the side of the element. This particular thermostat is obsolete and very difficult to find. However, there is an excellent substitute made by Stancor for around $5.00.Their part number is STO-325.
Remove the two screws and lift off the thermostat and slide the wire connectors off.Simply reverse the process for installation and be careful to replace the bottom lid, being careful not to crimp the wiring.
My Slant Fin humidifier has a floating, ring-shaped magnetic level that isn't replaceable. You can't even tell it's magnetic until you cut off the piece that prevents the white plastic float from rising past a certain point. It turns out that there is a ring-shaped magnet in the float.
I found that the Refill light would go off when I held a strong magnet near the float device.
So, I have suspended the magnet with string from the top of the humidifier outside the humidifier.
Caution: This fix disables the safety feature inherent in the low level shut off. I wonder why the manufacturer uses material that corrodes?
This sounds like the float switch may be stuck - giving an error message - usually these are not too hard to unstick - it is often a cleaning issue - the manual should show you where the float switch is and how to check it, but if the error message is not listed in the manual, if you are sure it is the correct manual then I would expect it to be a technicians job, else they would list the error message.
