Hi There,

Just go to the following web site;

http://www.magicardonline.net

Enter your printer's serial number in the QuickSearch box.

At the bottom of the search results you fill find a useful video tutorial called 'Loading cards'.

The trick is the hopper has to be offered up to the rear of the printer at a 45 degree angle, then as bottom of the hopper engages, tilt if forward and it will drop down into position.

Like you say, I am assuming that you have the correct hopper, but you will see the correct hopper on the video!

I hope this helps.

Regards,

MC

Flipper error

Hi There,
Exactly which model do you have?
Only the Rio Pro model has a flipper fitted. If it is the Rio Pro, there will also be an error number at the end of the error (18:??).

Kind Regards,

Printing lines on cards

Hello Richard,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your request.
You may have already resolved your issue by now.
The advice below may help others with the same issue though.

In the case of a damaged (scratched) printhead, the lines always run along the cards longest length (landscape), and are always in exactly the same place.
They are normally White, and usually very thin (just a few pixels wide). You would also see the line on the used dye film too by unwinding some film from the take-up spool (at the front of the printer).

Sometimes in the case of older out-of warranty printers, it is easier / cheaper just to avoid that are of the card using the card design. The image can also be rotated 180 degrees in the driver's Printing Preferences. However, if the card design has a solid colour background, or the White line is in the centre of the card, printhead replacement may be the only option.

Depending on which Rio model you have (Rio, Rio 2, Rio2e, or Rio Pro), different printhead assemblies are available as a field replaceable unit. Part numbers are below;

Magicard Rio - FG/M9005-794
Magicard Rio 2 / Rio 2e - FG/M9006-630E
Magicard Rio Pro - FG/3652-0160

All are available from your local Magicard dealer / reseller.

Prevention is better than cure;

  • Replace the sticky cleaning roller in the cleaning cassette as regular as possible.
  • Only use good quality blank PVC card stock (no sharp edges, or burrs)
  • Clean the printer regularly using the appropriate cleaning kit;

    Rio, Rio 2, Rio 2e (Cleaning kit part number: M9005-761)
    Rio Pro - (Cleaning kit part number 3633-0053) *
    Rio Pro - (Sticky roller kit (5 rollers +metal shaft) - 3633-0054)*
    * A sticky cleaning roller is supplied with every new dye film

Kind Regards,

MC.

Sticky back card static causing them to stick togeather and not feed from the hopper

Hello Richard,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your request.

Feeding cards (especially self-adhesive types) from the rear hopper, can sometimes be frustrating. You have done the right thing by separating the cards (this applies to all cards - just fan down both sides like a dealer would with a pack of cards). This important.

Please try the following additional trick though;

Remove the rear hopper.
On the front panel, select Menu -> Test Card -> Yes (to confirm).
The rear hopper roller will start to rotate.
Take a fresh cleaning card (from the cleaning kit - 3633-0053) out of its wrapper. It MUST be damp.
Fold it into a loop and manually hold the cleaning card against the hopper roller as it turns (with gentle hand pressure). The idea of folding the cleaning card is to prevent it from being accidentally dragged into the rear of the printer.
After about 12 seconds, an Out of Cards 02:00 error will be displayed. Press Retry.
Turn the card over and repeat until there are no Black marks left of the cleaning card. Repeat as necessary moving to a fresh part of the cleaning card each time.
If the card should accidentally go too far into the printer, a Card Jam 06:05 error will be shown. Just open the lid, and close it again to clear the card jam error. The sequence will carry on from the previous stage (the hopper roller will start turning again shortly after closing the lid).
Once you are happy the roller is thoroughly clean, on the next Out of Cards error, press Cancel.
Discard the cleaning card which will probably have dried out by this point. Replace the rear hopper.

Card feeding should then be trouble-free.

If the problem should persist, contact your local Magicard support centre.

Kind Regards,

MC.

Hello Amy,
Is it possible for you to attach either a digital scan, or a photo of the printer's internal test card (press and release the small test button on the back of the printer)? This may give some clues as to the cause.

Magiccard Rio printer is giving error code 24:24

Error code 24:24 means that the sensors need to be replaced. This requires sending the printer back to MagiCard for them to replace the sensors.

I have a Magicard Rio I keep getting the error message card jam error 02:12 yet there is no card jam if i put a card in the back it ejects it correctly help

Hello Colin,
I'm not sure how old your printer is, but I suspect this is caused by a loose connection on the front card sensor (especially if the error occurs when initialising). If there is a loose connection, the card sensor always shows as blocked (hence the error 02:12). I guess this is a Rio 2e and not a Rio 2 model.

Make sure you quote the printer's serial number in the email.
I can send you some detailed instructions for confirming this is the problem, and also suggestions for repairing the printer.

The cards are sticking

Hi There,

Im_useless:
0.126 is not a Magicard error number. On a Rio 2 printer, the error number will be displayed on the LCD display. It should look like 02:?? or 04:??, etc.

Are the cards feeding out of the hopper?
How far into the printer have they gone before you get the error?
Are any of the dye film panels printed before the card gets stuck?
Are the cards ejected when you click on 'OK'?

Guest:
The most common reason for the dye film sticking to the cards are if they already have overcoat printed on them (you can not print over overcoat). Also, if you are printing very dense images, try selecting 'ColorSure' mode in the printing preferences, Try reducing the YMC printhead power in printing preferences.
