Re: Okidata c5200n printer 173:FATAL ERROR. What is this?...
In the fuser unit the Heat roller thermister indicates a low temperature error. Replacing the fuser unit will usually resolve this. Fuser units are consumable items bur for an early life failure such as this it may be worth contacting the manufacturer.

What does "Fatal Error" mean? Summary:Printer has displayed a "Fatal Error" message. This simply means a problem has occurred requiring you to take action. It does NOT mean that your printer has "died".
Your printer display or status monitor may read "Fatal Error". This simply means a problem has occurred requiring action to clear. A "Fatal Error" does not mean your printer will "die". Fatal Error explanations are not usually found in the User's Guide or Handy Reference Guide.
RECOMMENDED NEXT STEP: First, try turning off your printer then turning it back on. If this does not clear the message or remedy the problem, check to see if your printer is on a power strip (or not plugged directly into the wall). For testing purposes, be sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall. Often, the issue is power-related.
Second, if the issue persists after this, write down the message (including the 3-digit error code number) and email us at "[email protected]" or call Oki Data Customer Support (1-800-654-3282) for assistance.
NOTE: If you see a series of letters and numbers(scrolling across the display) after the 3-digit error code, be sure to write these down also and report them when call or emailing Customer Support.
It points to an internal error. It may be from the fuser unit. Make sure all the wires are connected praoperly and that you didn't disconnect anything when you repalced the fuser. If the problempersists, you'll have to take it in for service.
unfortunately, a 173 error is a fatal error which requires service, or technical skill on your part. It usually involves replacing the power supply board and fan.
Fatal Error 161-Toner Sensor Error, Color:Magenta When magenta toner sensor error has occurred
Fatal Error 163-Toner Sensor Error, Color:Black When magenta toner sensor error has occurred
Both are Sensor errors....You would first check the lock levers that hold the toner cartridges in, if everything is fine with them then you could possible have toner dust on the sensors. First take out the cartridge that you are having problems with, then use a dust off can and carefully clean out any axcess toner that you can see where the toner sits. there is a sensor that looks like a clear plastic or glass eye that reads the cartridges and it sometimes gets dirty.
That is a fuser erron code. Abnormal temperature. You will need to replace the fuser. Sometimes I have sen a buildup of toner on the thermistor. If you can get to it. You can try to clean the toner off. Be careful. Very hot.
