I have had this happen to me (DC14 Animal). This was my experience:

If you have recently had the motor filter (the "permanent" one under the dust container, right on top of the motor) out and have replaced it, it is important to make sure that the filter cover is down properly, otherwise the canister will not release.

I got the dust container off by pushing it downwards, quite hard before pressing the release button. You really will have to push straight down on it quite hard. Then investigate why the dust container is so high that it will not release.

I hope you've found out by now, but, in case you haven't, the latch to remove the canister is right by the handle on top of it, just don't lift until you release the latch with your thumb, it's got a safety to keep you from hitting the release when you're using that handle to carry the vacuum.  (good engineering).

SOURCE: No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

Darran

By the time the brushes are shot, so is the armature. You need a motor.

Seems my dyson dc14 redbin emptying button is broken is that part replaceable?

That part is not sold separately. You have to buy the whole dust bin assembly. You should go to your local vac shop and see if they have a good used one. At my store we have piles of old Dysons that we sell parts off of.

Dyson DC14 Animal: Loses suction when in the upright postion and I am using the wand. I have cleaned the top spongy filter. It sort of 'blows' out of the top of the cylinder if that makes sens

Hi Sharon,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If the machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual through the wand, this may be due to a blockage in the wand, hose or U-bend. The easiest way to check for this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc14/dc14-origin-iron/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/wand-suction

Although I note you've cleaned the filter, you might want to check you've washed it as shown in the video below - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Wash both parts of the filter in cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry before replacing it.

This should resolve your issue, but for any further assistance, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can help.

Best wishes,

From what you've described, it sounds as if you may not have your clear bin and cyclone pack assembled correctly. Please check you have these parts correctly fitted together - it may help to take a look at the DC14 user guide:

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC14 Animal. You should find the cleaner reclines freely into the vacuuming position when you place a foot on the cleaner head, and lower the handle. If it's not doing this, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can provide the assistance you need.

Where can I access a user, parts and accessories guide? Am looking to see if we have a "groomer" attachment to clean carpets - Chris

To access the DC14 Animal information on Dyson's site, select Uprights, then DC14 Telescope Reach. You can then choose the DC14 Animal from the various DC14 models.

Download the pdf manual here: http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc14_opmanual_usa2007.pdf

The manual lists some accessories, but the current list of compatible accessories is here:
http://www.dyson.com/store/accessorieslist.asp?product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

The carpet grooming tool (designed for use with Zorb maintenance powder) can be purchased on its own, or in a couple of kits.
