Dyson DC50 Brush was not spinning. Replaced with new brush and still will not spin. Any thoughts?

It could be one of the switches, the brush bar motor, or a loose wire or connection.

Why aren't the brushes turning?

Hi Francis, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC50's brushes should always rotate when the machine is plugged in, switched on, and reclined into the normal vacuuming position. They're engineered to run when cleaning carpets or hard floors, but you do also have the option of switching them off to protect delicate rugs.

If your DC50's brush bar won't rotate, check the cleaner head for any obstructions, and remove any threads or hair from the brush bar before resetting it as shown in our video guide:

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like further assistance from Dyson once you've given this a try, just give the Dyson customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). If a repair or replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

Beater bar doesn't spin and we have cleaned out all hair, etc.

Hi John, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC50's motorised brush bar. Usually, following the steps shown in our Support video will reset the machine and get the brush bar working again.

However, if you've already removed any threads and hair and checked for obstructions without successfully resolving the issue, I would encourage you to contact us directly for further assistance. If a repair or replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if your machine is within the Dyson guarantee period.

When you have your DC50 easily to hand, please give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

We'll look forward to speaking with you - I'm sure we can help resolve this.

Dyson DC 50 Serialno AH6-UK-EHA1562A. rEQUIRE NEW BLACK BRUSHES, D I NEED TO BUY A NEW ASSEMBLY OR CAN i BUY THE BRUSHES?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC50's brush bar comes as a complete assembly. The soft black anti-static carbon fibre filaments aren't available as individual components.

However if the carbon fibre filaments on your DC50's brush bar are worn or damaged in some way, we may be able to help. If you can email a clear picture of the issue to me directly at [email protected], I'll be in touch as soon as possible to provide further assistance. If you can also include your full home address and post code, as well as your contact phone number and the date on which you purchased your machine, that would be very helpful to us.

I'll look forward to hearing from you.

Comcast dc50

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
From what you've described in your question, it sounds very likely that you have a blockage somewhere between the cleaner head and the bin. Please follow the steps shown in the video above to locate any obstructions from the cleaner head, and to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar.
Once you've done this, it's also a good idea to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide for help locating blockages in the internal hose:

If you would like any further advice from one of our experts after you've tried this, you can reach our freephone UK Helpline on 0800 298 0298. We're available from 7am-10pm, 7 days a week.
Best wishes,
Jack
