Toggle keys don't work as advertised

Hi David,

I located and downloaded a copy of the manual and found the details for [Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [Enter] on page 8 that simply says:

"This will switch everything (KVM and sound) to the next port."

There is no mention of this keystroke switching to the next port "only if there is a computer connected" as you indicated in your question. It would seem to me that if the KVM switches to the next port when it receives the [Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [Enter] keystroke - it is working as described in the manual that I downloaded from the IOGear site.

The only remaining commands accepted by the KVM are :

[Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [a] [Enter] which is a 5 second Auto Scan mode

and:

[Scroll Lock] [Scroll Lock] [a] [n] [Enter] which is nearly identical as the a5 second Auto Scan mode - except the the numerical value you type in place of [n] is the number of seconds spent on the next port.

Double check your manual and if you're still having trouble - contact IOGear directly below:

My computers seem to have become somehow linked by the KVM switch

The GCS632U is just one KVM switch. But if you're going to check it out, it has actually two separate connections.

It will just switch once you toggle from one computer to another.

Try to power cycle the KVM switch.

1. Shut off both computers.
2. Disconnect the KVM switch from the computers. (make sure that not even a single cable is connected to the computer, even the audio).
3. Leave it disconnected for 10 minutes.
4. Reconnect the KVM and boot up the XP first.
5. Boot up the Vista, try to toggle from one computer to another.
6. LASTLY, shut off the Vista and see if same problem will occur.

If you get the same problem, then you need to contact IOGEAR and have them RMA the device. Because this is the first time that I heard of this problem.

Thank you and good luck!

Repeated IOGear KVM switch failures

As a wild guess, it sounds like a static discharge MIGHT be affecting the switcher causing it to crash.

Try increasing your humidity to 40% and grounding yourself before touching the keyboard... This is the season for these static electricity problems... get nipped all the time and you MAY not even feel it to be enough to zap the switch.

IOGear (GCS632U) 2-port KVM Switch problem. All functions well it seems after connecting for first time Mac Mini and XP Windows Dell PC except when switching to Mac I get a blank dark screen. Another side...

The IOGEAR GCS632U is designed to work with VGA computers and monitors. Using the Mini DVI to VGA adapter is not guaranteed to work with this KVM switch.

The Mini DVI to VGA adapter can only convert the port, but it does not have an ability to convert the signal from digital to analog when it's connected to the KVM switch.

What you need to have is a DVI to VGA SIGNAL converter. Unfortunately, I don't have a model number handy, so I would suggest to contact IOGEAR, because I'm sure that they already have a work around with this issue.

Thank you and good luck!

GCS62 - both computers must be on for this thing to work?

It seems that you KVM switch is not working properly. computers connected to a KVM switch are not dependent to each other. you should be able to work on any of your computers while the others were turned off.

KVM will only switch one way

Please make sure that the keyboard is hooked up on the KB port of the KVM. check underneath the GCS632U for the correct console port. you will see a keyboard and mouse icon. Make sure that the keyboard is connected to the keyboard port. tap scroll lock key twice to switch between computers.

KVM unresponsive

Greg,

Try swapping the KVM cables from the 2008 computer into the Vista computer and see if the problem follows the 2008 computer. This KVM gets the drivers it needs from the OS and the IOGear web site does not show any support for 2008.

Iogear KVM Switch Not Working at All

jerk_shop is correct, the GCS632U does get the power it needs to function from the USB ports of the computers it is attached to. Make sure the USB portion of the KVM cable is plugged directly into a computer without the use of any USB to PS/2 adapters. You will also want to make sure that at least one computer is turned in order for this KVM to function.

Mac and Vista

Operating System doesn't deal anything on your problem. The problem depends on the brand of you computers or the type of keyboard you are using.

The GCS632U is designed to work with standard USB keyboard and mouse only. And wireless and gaming keyboards and mice are not guaranteed to work correctly with this KVM switch. If any one of you is using the new Mac Aluminum keyboard, this keyboard will not work with the older version of the GCS632U. But IOGEAR releases a new batch of GCS632U that would work with the Apple Aluminum keyboard.

If you have an Apple Aluminum keyboard that does not work with the GCS632U, you may contact the IOGEAR Tech support and they will process a Return Merchandize Authorization (RMA) if your device is still under the warranty period.

To resolve your keyboard issue, try to power cycle the KVM switch by disconnecting it from the computers, disconnect also the keyboard and mouse from the KVM switch. Leave it disconnected for two minutes. After two minutes, reconnect everything and reboot the computers.
