Sharp Aquos LC-37D44U only shows B&W images from DVD & VHS source

First thing- why not just use the HDMI instead of standard def cables in the first place? Anyway- If the RCA-video (yellow composite cable) is not producing color, 1 of 2 things may be wrong: 1. You accidentally connected the a/v cables [yellow white and red] to [red green and blue] component inputs or vice versa, or.. 2. Your TV or DVD player is somehow set to the wrong video format. Check the DVD settings for video output format and video connector type. Format should be NTSC, and connector should be composite and/or s-video for the cables you're using.
If this is only happening when connecting the DVD player through the VCR, then check to make sure the same cables connecting the DVD player to the the VCR are also connected to the TV from the VCR.
BTW- if this is just to record DVDs to a VCR, I'll tell you it's not worth it. If your DVD player has an HDMI port, your picture quality will be so much better than if you're watching a VCR copy of one. Your new HDTV will look worse than an old standard def TV. Worse; I'm not kidding.
I hope some of this helps.

Its not the power pack. The problem is with the dvd player which is also where the cable inputs converts through to the tv. if you are lucky enough to find a new internal dvd unit then you are in luck but I have'nt been able to. Your problem is an old isuues at least 2 years old...Sorry no Mintek tech support available.

Small picture screen

on the remote there is a button called "View Mode" on the bottom right that changes the size of the screen. Try that. I don't know you would adjust it without the remote

Dvd stuck in player. Dvd won't play. None of the buttons works. Nothing works. Can't watch tv or anything.

Had the same problem. After a couple of times of removing the DVD player and manuelly removing the DVD I called for a RMA and they fixed it, but they say the problem was that  I had another DVD in the player. ???

No picture on LCD

The LCD backlight has died. If it is still under warranty you may want to contact Mintek and see what they can offer you.
