The original problem was a flickering screen and good audio. I called SEARS repair and the following ensued. The upgade boards were installed by SEARs techs. When the first eeprom was installed nothing happened when it was turned on. Techs deemed it a bad chip. We reordered another chip and I installed the second eeprom and all it does is turn on the LEDs on the left front (power indicator) to turn purple for a few seconds then turns red. That is not the normal (red=standby/ Blue= on) You can tell that the power supplies are not being enabled due to no audible click when power switch is toggled. I reinstalled the original chip and the power supplies kick on but the original problem is still there. Any idea why the chips aren't kicking on the power supply?
Sears was of no help to me in a similar situation like yours. Your best bet is to get Haier to send you a new or refurbished unit 42ep24s-rb. Know that this is fastest, cheapest (or no cost) solution to your problem. I have an idea this is also cheapest approach for Haier. For the benefit of those others that didn't get the upgrade boards, you must indicate that you know this particular model is experiencing "blackout but with audio" and that Haier has a replacement kit (usually at no cost) to rectify this problem throughout the US. Yes the EEprom may not be compatible with the upgrade kit TV-3940-01 which contains three motherboards or the servicemen may have improperly handled your plasma screen or damaged your other boards or the replacement boards were defective. Your solution lies with Haier who is planning on marketing this low cost quality monitor at Walmart! They want a positive image that they will take care of owners of their products whether it is high end or low end. Haier is a responsive and responsible manufacturer. They depend on LG for delivery of their parts. Please excercise patience and courteousness when dealing with Haier and you will have your TV/replacement working perfectly again.
