Meade ETX-125EC Telescope Problem

Someone connected an incorrect power supply and now the scope will not power up.

Are there any circuit breaker/fuse links I can check?

Well, when I got the unit, indeed it would not power up at all. I could see no burning or signs of arcing.

I looked online for an internal picture of the drive and fitted the cables back in according to the image.

Tadahhhh, one working drive, only works on the 12v though, Batteries wont work although I have measured the voltage and they are all fully charged. Seems the previous owner had removed the looms and put them back incorrectly.

I am looking for someone in Michigan near Sunfield, I have a Meade ETX125PE that I would like someone to help me with. e-mail address is [email protected] and [email protected].

Contact a local Astronomy club nearby and the members will help you with the scope.

http://www.astroleague.org/societies/list/MI

Also this is the general setup for the NON- PE version of this scope.

1. Do a calibrate motors

2. Train the drives

3. Take the scope outside and level the tripod.

4. Put the scope in the HOME position (read the manual)

5. Execute a 2 star alignment and center both stars.

I was trying to insert the ac adaptor to the outlet of the telescope. It seems that it was short circuted and a smoke came out & I smell something burned. Is there a sort of a fuse that will prevent...

No, you burned out some of the circuits on the internal power board. Meade can repair the scope but you must send it to them.

That's why I always use a 12 volt battery pack and NEVER use the 110volt adapter

I need an 8 x 25mm Right angle viewfinder for a Meade ETX-125EC Astro Telescope

Many retailers sell these. The catch is to find one that will MOUNT to the ETX125. Try these two retailers:

http://www.agenaastro.com/

http://www.optcorp.com/

Call them and see what they have.

Light on telescope on powerup but nothing from autostar.

If Meade does not offer help, there is a 3rd party that does 'supercharging' of ETX models:

My Meade ETX-125EC Telescope has a broken horizontal lock lever where can I get a replacement? thanks

Meade can probably sell you one :

You might also find something that would work to tighten it at a well stocked hardware store.

Power goes out ETX 125

Several possibilities:

1. Bad cable from hand controller to the scope. Buy a new one at www.scopestuff.com much better quality and cheap.

2. Firmware is corrupted in the hand controller. Update the firmware using the Autostar Update software here:
http://www.meade.com/support/auto/Au2ver59.exe

3. You have a bad hand controller and will need to buy a new one.

Never plug or unplug the hand controller or any other cables while the power is turned on.

Good luck--

Meade "might" sell you the replacement part. But most likely they will want you to return the scope for repairs.
