Possible that it needs a much needed maintenance, remove the pan up and clean up all the clogged dirt in the system, clean up the filter, use a good brush to wipe out all dirt and check if wires are damaged in the feed. Check the switch and reset back filters.
If the fault is recurring the motor must be checked for weakness, might need a brush up.

Rainbow turns on for a second or two then quits and won't turn back on.

If you have the model Rainbow E-2 eSERIES then the Motor Rainbow 120v could be going bad. This will trip the auto reset until it cools down.
If you have an E2 Type 12 Rainbow, then the Controller Asm 120v e2 Silver Gold could be going bad.

Hi! if i purchase a rainbow vacuum on the net will i regret it?

Can't speak for others, but I sell rainbows on ebay, SE series and E2 models, when I get them in. My units are disassembled, cleaned, inspected and tested to insure quality. My write-ups include good and bad about the unit so the buyer gets NO surprises. They normally sell for around $325.00 (E2 model). The best thing to do is check the sellers rating and feedback for a good score. My score is 100% with all positive feedback. So I know there is at least one place to buy one without concern or regret. I usually list one or two a month: vacmantwo is my ebay member ID. Email address is,
[email protected]

SE model will run about $150.00 plus $45.00 s&h
E2 model is about $325.00 plus $45.00 s&h
Prices depend on condition of unit. But I won't sell a unit that is in questionable condition. The outside usually has cosmetic issues, minor scuffing or blemishes, but does not affect the operation of the performance.

Have a rainbow e-2 that was running and quit.

Hi, there is no reset button on a Rainbow vacuum. There is a safety switch on all E series and E2 series Rainbow vacuums, that keep it from running without the water basin on it.

No power

You must have a late model 2006 or newer E2 two speed Rainbow vacuum that has the white foam padding in the canister, to dampen the sound of the motor, and has a red light on the computer board.

I hate to tell you, but your computer is most likely the problem, and is out on your E2 two speed vacuum.

The only solution is to get a new computer for it.

It is realy not worth replacing it, because it may also be the motor. The E2 is a very high tec system, and is not like any other vacuum. When you turn it on, you are not turning on the vacuum. You are turning on the computer, which is controling everything.

I could supply you with another canister, if you are interested.

Rainbow E2 2 speed vacuum motor whines at startup

I used to sell rainbow vacuums and this latest 2 speed model does whine when it is first turned on. So you definately have nothing to worry about. I believe this is due to the fact that this motor is much more powerful than in the previous 1 speed E series model. I finally just purchased a 2 speed model after many many years of wanting one. Good luck to ya and enjoy your clean house!

Rainbow e2 2 speed vacuum shuts off after 5 minutes of vacuuming.

2 speed E2 models have a circuit board inside that controls the machine. It sounds like this controller board may be bad. The unfortunate part of this is that the board is not only very expensive, but it is only available from an authorized Rainbow service center.
Use caution if you decide to work on this yourself or if you take it to a service center that is not famliar with these models. The circuit board mentioned above is susceptible to damage from static eclectricity discharge. The static you generate from just walking across a carpet could make this board useless. So, if the original problem is not the board you could make the problem worse.

E2 gold series - makes loud noise on start up

That is normal. All E2 two speed Rainbows make that sound. It is because it has a brushless motor that the computer is controling, and the computer is controling everything. The motor rotor has no coils on it on the rotor, which is very small and light, and the computer gives it a small power boost when you first turn on, then increases the power until ir reaches full speed.

I don't know how to take apart me Rainbow e2 series vac.

I recently took mine apart because the motor stopped working. Realized the brushes were pretty well worn down and one side was completely gone. I was looking on the internet for detailed instructions on how to take it apart. I ended up just ripping it apart with no problems but made a tutorial to help you guys out. Here's a link to it

http://www.vacuumcleanerforum.com/f20/21715-how-take-your-rainbow-vaccum-apart.html

This is for the e-series vaccum, not the e2 but they pretty much have the same design and same motor (e2 has a 2 stage motor).
