I also spoke to Dyson about the Hepa filter located over the motor cover. It says Lifetime & Permanent, but all they give you is double talk and say its for the life of the vacuum, which means nothing, because the vacuum is fine, but the lifetime hepa filter is bad or to clogged up so the motor overheats and shuts off. They also said this was not meant for the owner to replace, and take it to a shop to do this. This is a bunch of BS. They would sell me a new one for $30.00. They first said I can clean it in water but I could tell it was not made to go in water which their supervisor confirmed. How can Dyson put Lifetime on a part when it means nothing. They are at the least false advertising.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.

In answer to your 1st question, you may want to check with a factory authorized vac dealer who does repair on the Dyson vacuums to see if they can correct the problem, or call the Dyson factory phone # listed below for the nearest vac dealer in your area. 2nd question. The Hepa filter is mostly a wear item and I was not aware of the lifetime Hepa filter and that also would be a good question for the factory to answer, I could not find an answer to the questions and they might be able to clarify the answer to both your questions. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

After cleaning my filters, the filter in the ball keeps snaping out when I turn on my vacuum

Hi Betsy, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC25's HEPA post filter doesn't seem to be staying in place. Once it's removed, it's important to replace it firmly, pushing it into place until you hear a click from the red locking catch:

If you're confident you've replaced the HEPA post filter securely, but it seems to be coming loose when you switch the vacuum on, please get in touch with the Dyson Customer Helpline so we can provide further assistance. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Where are both filters?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC23 has two filters - a washable pre-filter, and a HEPA post-filter which needs no maintenance. Both are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum without replacement in normal use.

The correct way to wash the pre-filter is shown in the video below - we recommend using cold water without detergent, and allowing at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it. In normal use this should be done at least once every 3 months.

As the post-filter needs no maintenance, it's sealed within the machine and cannot be accessed by the user.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you'd like any further advice. If you have any concerns about your DC23's performance, our online Support guide should help: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc23/dc23-animal/my-machine-is-not-working/check-telescopic-wand-step-1-turbine-head

If you'd prefer, you're welcome to contact our experts at the Dyson Customer Helpline directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How do you clean the HEPA filter on the Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC14 has two filters, a pre-motor filter and a post-motor filter. Both are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, but only the pre-motor filter requires maintenance.

We recommend washing the pre-motor filter at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent, as shown in the video below. Always ensure it's completely dry before replacing it - this could take at least 12 hours.

The HEPA post-motor filter does not require any maintenance. We advise against attempting to wash or clean it in any way as this could cause damage. It's normal for the filter to discolour over time, as it's engineered to capture the carbon dust from the motor brushes. This will not affect performance.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like any further information you're welcome to contact our experts directly at 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My Dyson Animal has zero suction from the wand or the actual vaccuum. When it is reclined, the brush bar spins, but no suction. When in the upright position, nothing happens.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, it's possible that there's a blockage in the system - I'd also recommend giving the filter a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-ANIMAL_US Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergent, and allow up to 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it. By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and to recommend the best course of action. Kind regards, Jack Dyson Online Customer Support

Each time I vacuum, animal hair and dirt collect on the Hepa filter of my Dyson Animal. It is about 5 years old. I have already replaced the Hepa filter about a month ago.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If dirt and pet hair are collecting on your HEPA filter, the pre-motor filter may be incorrectly fitted, or missing from your cleaner. To check the filter is correctly fitted, please see our online support video for this cleaner:

Does my Dyson Animal vacuum have a hepa filter?

The HEPA filter is not a cleanable item. The pre-motor filter is the washable one.

Remove hepa filter

Turn the Dyson on its back as if you were servicing the beater brush and on the RH side you'll see the filter housing for the HEPA and a T-15 Torx screw. Remove this screw and then remove the cover for the HEPA filter.

Changing the HEPA filter on a DC17 Animal

Just took my Dyson in and yes my HEPA needed changing. It's under the right wheel (as you're looking at the machine); you can see it through the "vents" above the wheel. The screw is on the bottom of machine.

You will probably need a Torx (star) 15 screwdriver -- that's what Dyson seems to use everywhere.
