Where is my suspension spring on my washing machine

The suspension springs on your washing machine are used to either suspend the tub assembly from the cabinet or to stabilize the tub assembly to the washer base. They also absorb the vibration of the wash basket while the machine is in the spin cycle. Occasionally these springs will become damaged, stretched or detached which can cause excessive noise and vibration from your washer during the spin cycle. You will need to remove the top or front panel of the washing machine to gain access to the suspension springs. Inspect for stretching or damage and ensure that they are securely attached at both ends. Use caution when replacing the springs as they are under tension and always wear the proper protective clothing. We recommend that you replace all of the suspension springs if any are determined to be defective.

I have a Kenmore Heavy Duty 60 series Washer. The agitator is out of balance, so I took it apart to find the counterweight spring was not attached to anything. Where does it attach too, it is already...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.########) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

You should be able to see where the springs attach by looking at the base diagram.

Following also is the Whirlpool / Kenmore PDF on how the transmissions work but it also has a good diagram of where the springs attach.

I don't believe that the counterweight spring attaches to the brake.

Need a diagram bad....!!!

The front suspension is a combination strut and spring design. The control arms (11) pivot from the crossmember (12). On base models conventional rubber bushings are used for the lower control arm pivots. On up-level suspensions the front bushing is replaced by a cross axis bearing.

The sections on machine base or tub should give you a decent diagram of where the springs go.

Rear suspension froze up. Trying to find a diagram of the suspension

the old elantras and accents have problems with the struts siezing up; especially if the vehicle has been lifted/jacked recently.

i see at least a few elantras/accents at the shop every week with locked up struts, its very very common. i am a hyundai tech, so trust me i see this a lot.
to replace the struts you will need a spring compressor and common hand tools.

check the front struts as well, they all tend to go around the same time, push down on one corner of the car at a time, if the car does not come back up after you release pressure, the strut has siezed/locked up.

DO NOT attempt to replace the struts if you dont have a spring compressor...that spring can really mess your day up if you dont properly compress it before removing that top nut.
