I have a Dyson root cyclone DC07- The canister will not release from the vacuum so that I may empty it.

It sounds like the Cyclone release catch has either snapped or the return spring is jamming it. Does the catch move at all when you push it? Either way the only way you're going to be able to remove the cyclone is to remove the top cover/handle which is secured in place by 3 screws as shown in the exploded diagram at the following link. - http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir... - Once you've got it off you can then assess the damaged.
